Our Established Relationship

From the beginning of time and throughout the Bible we see recorded history where God has established a relationship with mankind. He has told both His sons and His daughter’s what to expect and what He desired for them to do.

Much like today, when a mom or a dad calls a child from another room and gives them instructions to do a certain thing, God tells His children what He would like for them to do and calls them to certain action and assignments that need to be done, in order for His good and purposeful plan to be accomplished for the good of all, because He’s good, and His Will is perfect!

As God’s children, we are to submit our will to His. We are to not think our way is better. We must trust Him with everything. We must know that He is kind. We must know and understand that He loves us!

Whether or not we have understood this concept in our human relationships, we must allow God to teach us His ways. He wants us to hear and to obey. He wants to accomplish His purposes through our lives.

He asked Adam to name the animals. He told him to be fruitful with Eve and to multiply. He instructed them to look after all that He had made, and He told that He was putting them in charge. He made it possible for them to eat all that they needed to be sustained. He also prohibited one certain place from which NOT to eat.

Adam and Eve got mostly everything right that they were called to do but were deceived in just one area. They did not obey fully what they were called to do and not to do. That is a lesson for us today.

Obedience is Full Compliance

When God calls us to do certain things for Him, He also calls us to NOT do other things. We are NOT to lie, or be dishonest. We are NOT to cheat or act cowardly. We are NOT to let the sun go down on our wrath, or hold offense or bitterness. We are NOT to avenge ourselves, but leave it to God, He will repay. We are NOT to look with lust, or commit acts of adultery or sexual impurity. We are NOT to fear or to envy. We are NOT to have pride, hate another, or murder. We are NOT to worry or to take the Lord’s great name without reverence.  We are NOT to disregard the Lord’s day and His Sabbath rest, but keep it set apart and holy. We are NOT to have greed or dishonor our parents who have brought us into the world. We are NOT to covet our neighbor’s house, spouse, children, job, position, opportunity, friends, or anything else that belongs to someone else. These are a great many of the things the Lord calls us NOT to do, and we are wise to obey!

Accept the Call and Fulfill God’s Purposes

But what about what He calls us TO DO?  Let’s look at that.  He calls us to love our neighbor like we do ourselves and to love Him. He tells us to go the second mile. He instructs us to guard our hearts. He calls us to forgive so that we can be forgiven as well. He wants us to delight ourselves in Him. He teaches us to ask and believe. He says that He wants us to always rejoice and to give thanks in everything. He calls to give to those who have need, instruct others in righteousness, preach the gospel, heal the sick, cast out demons, and disciple others. He calls us to live peaceably with others, go into all nations with the love of God, which is the light of Jesus, and to occupy until He comes.

When God called Gideon, He wanted Him to fight against the enemy of God’s people, and He called on Gideon to downsize His army. And when Gideon used the very small army, and followed God’s exact instructions, God brought about a great deliverance.

When God called Deborah to prepare to fight, she listened, obeyed, went and gave instructions, and God brought the victory! When God called on Mary to carry the child Christ, she willingly obeyed and carried through with her assignment.

When Jesus called Peter to “Feed My Sheep,” he obeyed and did that.  When God called Moses to go to Pharaoh, he went again and again, and God brought the victory to free God’s people.  When God called Ananias to go to Saul, he went and obeyed, and God gave Paul His sight.

When God calls us today, it’s for His specific purposes and actions, so that His Will can be done on the earth through us.  Be pleased to obey the Lord! Listen to Him, receive His Word, and Obey! Everyday!
